TSR beta diagnostics privacy notice — version 1

What you send us, if you choose to. Diagnostics are optional and come in two parts, which you choose separately:

• crash reports: the internal error message, cleaned of paths and file names, the place in our program where it happened, and the call stack that led there: positions in the program's code, that is numbers, which become function names only with the symbols of that version, which we keep;
• usage metrics: the TSR version, the operating system and its version, the architecture, the number of processors, the memory in ranges and the interface language; for each operation (compress, extract, verify…) its type, the options used (names only, never values), the outcome, the duration and some numbers rounded to two significant digits, that is how many files, how many bytes before and after, the ratio and the filters applied per format; for errors, the error family and the kind of system operation that caused it.

What you never send us. File and folder names, paths, file contents, user names, passwords, the text of error messages (which contains paths). Our service does not receive your IP address and does not keep it: the web server in front of it keeps no access logs for diagnostics, and uses the address only in memory, for the time needed to limit abuse.

The identifier. Each installation has a random 128-bit identifier, created on your computer, which on its own does not say who you are. You can see it in the preferences and with tsr beta sonda, and change it whenever you like. With it you delete the data sent, even by yourself: from the preferences ("Delete the data sent") or with tsr beta sonda cancella.

Why. To find and fix the defects of the beta and to learn how to improve compression. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679), which you can withdraw at any time with no consequence on the use of the program.

Where and for how long. On our own server in the European Union, for ninety days from receipt, then they are deleted. The provider hosting the server processes them on our behalf. We do not share them with anyone, we do not use them for advertising or to profile you, and we take no automated decisions about you.

On your computer. Events wait in a queue on your disk, at most 1 MB, and leave when there is a connection. You can read them before they leave (tsr beta sonda mostra). If you withdraw one of the two parts, its events leave the queue. TSR_SONDA=0 turns diagnostics off.

Your rights. You can ask for access to the data linked to your identifier and for its deletion (which you can also do yourself, §4), and withdraw your consent: write to matteo@feroldi.cloud giving the identifier. You can also lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (www.garanteprivacy.it).
